Die Ostseite ist definitiv am st\u00e4rksten betroffen, denn sie hat das Vergn\u00fcgen, die Hauptlast der vorherrschenden Nordostwinde zu tragen. Diese Winde bringen Plastikm\u00fcll aus der ganzen Karibik mit sich. Hier findet man Flaschen, Deckel, Plastikeimer, Haarspangen, Flip Flops, Schuhe, Shampooflaschen und oft auch gr\u00f6\u00dfere Gegenst\u00e4nde wie Baumaterialien und kleine Boote.<\/p>\n<p>Auf der Nordseite der Insel findet man viele Getr\u00e4nkeflaschen, die zum Teil noch mit Etiketten versehen sind, was interessant ist, da man fast genau sehen kann, woher die Produkte stammen. Man sieht, dass ein gro\u00dfer Teil des M\u00fclls aus Haiti und Jamaika stammt. In diesen L\u00e4ndern, wie auch auf den Kaimaninseln, ist die Abfallentsorgung nicht gerade ideal. Bei St\u00fcrmen landet jeder M\u00fcll, der nicht gesichert ist, im Meer und dann an den Str\u00e4nden.<\/p>\n<p>Am Seven Mile Beach sammelt sich nicht so viel Plastik. Daf\u00fcr gibt es zwei Gr\u00fcnde:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Aufgrund der Form der Insel ist dieses Gebiet vor den Ostwinden gesch\u00fctzt.<\/li>\n<li>Die Hotels und Wohnanlagen haben Mitarbeiter, die jeden Morgen alles aufsammeln, was an Land geschwemmt wird.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Das kann dazu f\u00fchren, dass einige Leute das wahre Problem nicht sehen. Erst wenn man zu den anderen Str\u00e4nden kommt, wird das Problem eklatant. Die Insel hat SO viel Gl\u00fcck, dass Plastic Free Cayman Strands\u00e4uberungsaktionen organisiert.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99606\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_plastic_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_plastic_.png 469w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_plastic_-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Der h\u00e4ufigste Plastikm\u00fcll auf den Kaimaninseln:<\/h2>\n<h3>1)\u00a0 Plastikbecher und -besteck aus Bars<\/h3>\n<p>Diese Gegenst\u00e4nde werden st\u00e4ndig am Seven Miles Beach weggeworfen. Die Bars verwenden immer noch Einwegplastik f\u00fcr jedes am Strand konsumierte Getr\u00e4nk. Hier k\u00f6nnte Abhilfe geschaffen werden, wenn Hotels, Bars und Restaurants ein Pfandsystem f\u00fcr wiederverwendbare Becher einf\u00fchren w\u00fcrden, die sogar aus recyceltem Plastik vom Strand hergestellt werden k\u00f6nnten. Jede Bestellung zum Mitnehmen wird au\u00dferdem mit vielen Sets an Plastikbesteck geliefert. Vieles davon landet im Meer. Und selbst wenn die Dinge ordnungsgem\u00e4\u00df entsorgt werden, landen sie auf der M\u00fclldeponie, was nicht gerade ideal ist.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99613\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/bottle_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/bottle_.jpg 452w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/bottle_-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>2)\u00a0 Schuhe, Flip Flops und andere verlorene Seelen<\/h3>\n<p>Ich hatte nicht erwartet, so viele Schuhe zu sehen! Wo sind die Besitzer? Wo ist der andere Schuh? Wir werden es nie erfahren. Was man aber sieht, sie treiben dahin, bis sie mit Lebensformen (Seepocken und Algen) bedeckt sind. Sobald sie zu schwer werden, sinken sie und tragen noch weiter zur M\u00fcllschicht am Meeresgrund bei. Passt auf eure Schuhe auf, Leute! Solange sie noch schwimmen, werden sie \u00fcber den Ozean zu Str\u00e4nden wie denen auf den Kaimaninseln transportiert.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99620\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052.jpg 452w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>3)\u00a0 Flaschen und Flaschendeckel<\/h3>\n<p>Plastikflaschen landen aus den unterschiedlichsten Gr\u00fcnden an den Str\u00e4nden. Einige werden aus anderen L\u00e4ndern angeschwemmt, andere werden von einheimischen Strandbesuchern zur\u00fcckgelassen, wieder andere stammen von Fischern, die sie zur Ortung ihres Fangs verwenden. Manche Fischer fangen einen Hai, binden schwimmende Plastikflaschen an ihm fest und kommen sp\u00e4ter zur\u00fcck, wenn sie die richtigen Werkzeuge haben, um ihren Fang zu t\u00f6ten. Manchmal werden die Haie dabei vergessen und k\u00e4mpfen ums \u00dcberleben, w\u00e4hrend sie an diesen Schwimmern h\u00e4ngen.<\/p>\n<p>Flaschendeckel sind aus h\u00e4rterem Kunststoff als die Flaschen, und deshalb sieht man so viele davon an den Ufern. Der d\u00fcnne Kunststoff, aus dem die Flaschenbeh\u00e4lter hergestellt sind, wird von den Wellen leicht zerst\u00f6rt, wodurch eine Menge giftiges Mikroplastik verteilt wird.<\/p>\n<h3>4)\u00a0 Vollkommen zersplittertes Plastik<\/h3>\n<p>Das ist einer der h\u00e4ufigsten Anblicke hier auf den Cayman-Inseln. Ein Teil des M\u00fclls wurde kilometerweit verweht, bis er auf den weichen Sandstr\u00e4nden hier landete. In dieser Zeit wird er von der Sonne versengt, zerschlagen und in immer kleinere St\u00fccke zerrieben. Oft halten Fische diese kleine Teilchen f\u00fcr Nahrung. Das Plastik bleibt dann in ihren M\u00e4gen stecken und f\u00fchrt schlie\u00dflich zum Tod des Tieres.<\/p>\n<p>Dies ist kein seltenes Szenario; es ist mittlerweile selten, ein Meerestier zu finden, das nicht an diesen Ursachen gestorben ist.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99626\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_.jpg 452w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/OW_052_-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>5)\u00a0 Fischereiabf\u00e4lle<\/h3>\n<p>Fischereiabf\u00e4lle sind der haupts\u00e4chliche M\u00fcll, der an den Str\u00e4nden zuhause in Dorset zu finden ist. Hier ist er nicht so h\u00e4ufig. Das k\u00f6nnte daran liegen, dass in diesen Gew\u00e4ssern viel weniger kommerzieller Fischfang betrieben wird. Bei den gesammelten Abf\u00e4llen dieser Art handelt es sich normalerweise nur um eine einzelne Angelschnur und einen Haken. Auch diese einzelnen Reste k\u00f6nnen sich summieren. Nimm deine gebrauchten Sachen immer mit nach Hause und entsorge sie ordnungsgem\u00e4\u00df.<\/p>\n<p>Die Art von Plastik, die wir hier an den Str\u00e4nden sehen, erinnert uns daran, wie wir es vermeiden k\u00f6nnen, zu dieser Verschmutzung beizutragen. Wenn du einen Einkauf machst, schau dich um, anstatt die gleiche Wahl wie bisher zu treffen. Gibt es eine abfallfreie Alternative? Die Welt bewegt sich in die richtige Richtung, aber wir sind noch weit davon entfernt, ein Heilmittel zu finden. It can be the very catalyst we need to help us look at other areas of our lives and the impact they might be having on this fragile, beautiful planet. In recent years I've been aiming to raise awareness about plastic pollution through one of my passions, distance swimming. The swims have been growing year on year, each getting longer and harder but in doing so also reaching more people, creating the ripple effect needed to combat such a mind boggling issue. I have tried to slow my pace of life down as much as I can, however I'm currently juggling between earning enough to pay the bills, renovate my house, setting up a charity, regular beach cleans and training for some rather daunting awareness swims. The slowing pace of life isn't all that successful but it's one heck of a journey! I guess if I could sum it up in one sentence I'd say this - 'I want to enjoy my short existence on this planet but tread as lightly as I can, allowing space for other creatures to also thrive.' From a very early age I was surrounded by water, I trained as a competitive swimmer and summer holidays were often spent on the coast, camping in Cornwall. I\u2019d be in the sea all day body-boarding, then playing in the rock pools, marvelling at the wonderful sea creatures! I couldn't seem to get enough! In the mornings I wake up to the sound of the waves crashing on the rugged coastline, and fall asleep at night listening to them. I was then and still am, drawn to the ocean. Spending all this time around the sea and along the coastline I've been increasingly aware of the huge issue that is plastic pollution. There are many issues our planet is facing and I believe plastic pollution is a great place to start the change that is needed. It's easy to get involved in actively helping to clean up and reduce our use. It can be the very catalyst we need to help us look at other areas of our lives and the impact they might be having on this fragile, beautiful planet. In recent years I've been aiming to raise awareness about plastic pollution through one of my passions, distance swimming. The swims have been growing year on year, each getting longer and harder but in doing so also reaching more people, creating the ripple effect needed to combat such a mind boggling issue. I have tried to slow my pace of life down as much as I can, however I'm currently juggling between earning enough to pay the bills, renovate my house, setting up a charity, regular beach cleans and training for some rather daunting awareness swims. The slowing pace of life isn't all that successful but it's one heck of a journey! I guess if I could sum it up in one sentence I'd say this - 'I want to enjoy my short existence on this planet but tread as lightly as I can, allowing space for other creatures to also thrive.'
