Learn all about medley training!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Medley training is not easy, but it is certainly something you should learn to do if you want to become a more complete swimmer. Training for all four strokes increases your aerobic capacity and gives you a better feel for the water.<\/p>\n<h2>There are various benefits to be gained from medley training:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0Training variety.<\/strong> We have already seen that variety is the key to successful training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Varied stimuli.<\/strong> A variety of different stimuli means more and different motivation and greater attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>The possibility of taking part in different races from usual.<\/strong> This can have huge benefits when it comes to your own races.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-91162\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/medley_training_blog.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/medley_training_blog.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/medley_training_blog-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/medley_training_blog-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The strategies to be followed are very simple:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Work on your weaker strokes at least once or twice a week<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Change strokes frequently during <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.arenaswim.com\/en\/training-technique\/medley-hidden-importance-dedicated-session\/\">individual training sessions<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Train all the different strokes in the right order<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>20&#215;50 m medley (5x butterfly\/5x backstroke\/5x butterfly\/5x freestyle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Train your legs. Train your aerobic capabilities with different kinds of sets<\/h3>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> \u201cThere and back\u201d method<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>butterfly\/backstroke\/breaststroke\/freestyle &gt; freestyle\/breaststroke\/backstroke\/butterfly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For example, \u00a08&#215;100 medley, 1x \u201cthere\u201d 1x \u201cback\u201d with 20\u201d recovery<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> \u201cPairs\u201d method<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Butterfly\/backstroke, backstroke\/breaststroke, breaststroke\/freestyle, freestyle\/butterfly.\u00a0For example, 16&#215;50 medley, 1x \u201cpair\u201d with 10\u201d recovery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>2. Train the different strokes in progression:<\/h3>\n<p>25 butterfly<\/p>\n<p>50 butterfly\/backstroke<\/p>\n<p>75 butterfly\/backstroke\/breaststroke<\/p>\n<p>100 medley<\/p>\n<p>75 butterfly\/backstroke\/breaststroke<\/p>\n<p>50 butterfly\/backstroke<\/p>\n<p>25 butterfly<\/p>\n<h3>3. Train your weakest strokes<\/h3>\n<p>sets x 150 m (without freestyle):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 butterfly\/50 backstroke\/50 breaststroke<\/li>\n<li>25 butterfly\/25 backstroke\/25 breaststroke<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>4. This will really help you improve your weaker strokes.
