SILVER AND BRONZE AS HISTORY IS MADE IN RUSSIA<\/strong><\/p>\n

History was made on the fifth night of finals at the World Championships in Kazan, as Federico Grabich won Argentina\u2019s first world medal with bronze in the 100m freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

American Cammile Adams won a fantastic silver medal in the 200m butterfly, while the women\u2019s 100m freestyle semi-finals offered us promise of a sizzling final with Arena swimmers filling the top five slots.<\/p>\n

Federico Grabich<\/strong>\u00a0wrote himself into the history books when he came from sixth at halfway to take bronze in the 100m freestyle in 48.12.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old was stunned to have reached the podium, saying: \u201cTwo weeks ago I had a good performance at the Pan Americans. I thought I could reach the final here but to have a medal is truly amazing. This is the first medal for Argentina in long-course, but for next year, in Rio, the cards will be reshuffled\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cammile Adams<\/strong>\u00a0was seventh at the halfway point before moving up to fifth at the final turn. The final length saw the American 23-year-old make her way through the field to take silver in 2mins 06.40secs for her first world medal.<\/p>\n

Cammile had been inspired by her United States team-mate Ryan Lochte who won the 200m individual medley.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cWatching Ryan (Lochte) right before me (on the medal stand) is what did it. The last two prelims and semis, I wasn\u2019t too happy with so I think that just fuelled the fire for this race. The first 100 I just said \u2018relax, stick to your game plan, stick to your game plan, relax\u2019. That\u2019s what my coach David Marsh has been saying to me all day. So I did. I really couldn\u2019t see anyone on the last 50 except the girl right next to me so on the last 25 I said \u2018You just saw Ryan do this. Let\u2019s get it done\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

The final of the women\u2019s 100m freestyle promises to be a spectacle.Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m<\/strong>\u00a0of Sweden was the fastest through in 52.78 as she looks to add to her 100m butterfly title and world record.<\/p>\n

In the final Sarah will be in a\u00a0Campbell<\/strong>\u00a0sandwich with sisters\u00a0Cate<\/strong>\u00a0andBronte<\/strong>\u00a0of Australia who were second and third fastest respectively in the semis.<\/p>\n

Cate Campbell<\/strong>, who is the defending champion, said: \u201cIt was good, it got me through to the final that’s all I really needed. I know there will be three yellow caps bobbing around in the centre of the pool fighting it out. But you’ve got a dual Olympic champion and Femke, who went 52.6 earlier this year; you really cannot count anyone out. The goal in the semis is to have a place in the final and anything can happen for anyone in that final.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bronte Campbell<\/strong>\u00a0added: \u201cThis final is stacked; it is going to be absolutely amazing. You\u2019ve got Olympic gold medallists and world champions and I\u2019m glad to be in there and part of the mix. It is going be all guns blazing and whoever has got the biggest heart and the hardest kick gets to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong>\u00a0were fourth and fastest into the final.<\/p>\n
