Valentine’s day is quickly approaching, so naturally love is in the air!

More specifically for swimmers, love is in the chlorine-scented, stuffy, often poorly-ventilated air of the pool deck. Whether you’re crushing on a team mate, dating a fellow swimmer, or hopelessly swooning over the likes of Adam Peaty (*sigh*), the Valentine’s Day spirit is alive and well at the pool. You might be trying to find someone to social kick with. Or maybe you’re searching for a date who can hold their own at a post-practice all-you-can-eat buffet. Or maybe instead you’re trying to find someone who looks equally as cute as you while rocking wet hair and a bathing suit.

Whatever the reason, we’ve got you. To help spruce up your Valentine’s Day mojo, and to help you woo your special someone, here are some catchy swim-related pick up lines that are sure to make their heart race.

  • Are you the black line at the bottom of the pool? Cause I can’t tear my eyes away from you.
  • Are you the flags in a 200 back? Because I’ve been looking for you forever.
  • You’re like a pair of goggles; without you, everything’s a blur.
  • Call me the pace clock, cause you sure can count on me.
  • The pool water isn’t very hot but you sure are.
  • Is your name medley? Because IM crazy for you!
  • You must be a flip turn because I’m head over heels for you.
  • Are you a break stroker? Because you make my knees weak.
  • Your best time isn’t the only number I’d like to know.
  • Are you a sprint set? Because you get my heart racing.
  • Are you a brand new racing suit? Because you make me forget how to breathe.
  • I’m like the smell of chlorine – I’ll never leave you.

Hi! I’ve been swimming competitively since I was eight years old, and enjoy documenting the ups and downs of life as an athlete. Most of my days are spent on the pool deck, since I also work as a coach for young children, and as a lifeguard. Other than that, I’m a full time student and, like so many of my fellow swimmers, a food/nap enthusiast.
